Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Vol.2 Booster Pack Introduction Part 3: The Counters

Welcome to another article on the Weiss Schwarz Weekly Column!

Before we move on to the previews today, we would like to announce that voice actress, Sora Tokui, will be joining us at the Weiss Schwarz Neo-Showdown in New Zealand on April 24! She will be appearing at NZ Akiba-con, an awesome Anime, Gaming and Cosplay Convention in Auckland!

Bushiroad Spring Fest 2016 is still ongling, so don’t forget to drop by your nearest location to test out your skills and have fun!

Today, we will be talking about cards with the 【COUNTER】 ability. The 【COUNTER】 ability is available on some character cards and event cards, and they mostly function as a power boost to your characters. Do check out this article to find out more about the 【COUNTER】 ability.

“Uneasiness in the Heart” Sakura

【ACT】【COUNTER】 Backup 1500, Level 1 [Put this card from your hand into your waiting room] (Choose one of your characters that is being frontal attacked, and that character gets +1500 power until end of turn)

Firstly, we begin with Sakura. Most Level 1 characters with 【COUNTER】 ability either provides +1500 power at 0 cost or +2000 power at 1 cost which falls under the “vanilla” 【COUNTER】 category. Since playing this card from hand is not affected by color restrictions, putting one copy or two in your deck may help your character to survive through early beat down.

Signal to Counterattack

【COUNTER】 Choose one of your 《Master》 or 《Servant》 characters, and that character gets +3500 power until end of turn.

This card is the Song I Wanted to Sing for the Fate series. A 3500 power boost is highly relevant at any point of the game so do consider playing this card if you are playing Yellow. Search and salvage mechanic are pretty rare for Event cards but this card does have something that synergizes with it. Do check out the card lists when it’s out.

Last Farewell

【COUNTER】 Choose one of your characters, and that character gets +X power until end of turn. X is equal to 1000 multiplied by the number of green characters you have.

We rarely have Level 3 【COUNTER】card and this one is definitely a scary one. It gives you up to a +5000 power boost at no cost at all. However, any none-green color characters on your stage will dilute this card’s power. Regardless, it’s still a great 【COUNTER】 card that you should consider including.

“Complex Emotions” Rin

【ACT】 [Put two cards from your hand into your waiting room] When you use this card’s “”Backup””, you may pay the cost. If you do, choose one of your opponent’s characters with level higher than your opponent’s level, and put it into his or her waiting room.

This card is really handy when you encounter opponent characters with 【CHANGE】 ability in the early game. Since this ability can only be used when you are using the 【COUNTER】 ability, it technically stops one of your opponent’s attacks!

【ACT】【COUNTER】 Backup 1000, Level 1 [Put this card from your hand into your waiting room] (Choose one of your characters that is being frontal attacked, and that character gets +1000 power until end of turn)”

With a great ability to send an opponent’s character to the waiting room, the power boost of this card is slightly lower than others, but it’s totally worth it.

“Love Wing Bell”

【COUNTER】 Choose one of your characters with “Rin(凛)” in its card name, and put it into your waiting room. If you do, return the top card of your clock into your hand, and put this card into your memory.

The last card we would like to talk about is from Love Live! Vol.2 Booster Pack. However, it has an interesting ability that synergizes with cards from 3 different series.

As of now, we have 3 different “Rin(凛)” and they are Rin Tohsaka from the Fate series, Rin Hoshizora from Love Live! series and Rin Shibuya from THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS series. Nope, Rin Kagamine from the Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- series does not fulfill the criteria, because the Japanese character “凛” does not match. With this theme, we sure can cook up an interesting standard deck, right?

What’s Next?

We’ll have more card previews from Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Vol.2 next week, so stay tuned!
